Renewables overtake coal as world’s largest source of installed power

Renewables are now the largest source of installed power capacity in the world according to a new report by the International Energy Agency.

Half a milllion solar panels were installed every day last year and in China two wind turbines were installed every hour.

Wind and solar energy make up the bulk of the new energy sources which have become dramatically cheaper to install.

Australia Wind Alliance, Andrew Bray said "Australia is falling behind the rest of the world when it comes to renewable energy investment and this report is a timely reminder that the era of coal is coming to an end."
