Abbott Government’s ideological attack on renewables claims first victims as Keppel Prince sacks 100 workers

MEDIA RELEASE:Abbott Government’s ideological attack on renewables claims first victims as Keppel Prince sacks 100 workers

The Australian Wind Alliance has expressed anger that the Abbott Government’s ideological on renewables has taken its first victims, with 100 wind farm manufacturers losing their jobs at Portland wind farm manufacturer.

Andrew Bray, the National Co-ordinator for AWA, said that the only reason these one hundred people were losing their jobs was because of the uncertainty created by the government’s attacks on the sector.

“The Warburton Review represented a full scale attack on investor certainty in renewable energy.

“It is extremely regretful that this government is so hostile to renewable energy.

“It is extremely disappointing that local MPs like Dan Tehan were out calling this a victory in the last 24 hours.

“The government is trying to nobble the renewable energy industry in order to defend the interests of the big power companies.

"These job losses are a direct result of the government's failure to listen to regional communities.

“Keppel Prince should be manufacturing the products of the future. Australia is going to need more wind farms. They provide cheap, reliable and clean power,” said Mr Bray.
